Training is conducted by community health professionals, counselors
and educators who are skilled in teaching others about grief
management. The purpose of the training is to teach caring
individuals the skills of working with the grieving children,
adolescents, and adults in age-appropriate groups. An
important first step is for volunteers to examine their own ways of
dealing with loss. The skills of empathetic listening and
group facilitation are also taught. The training consists of
25 hours of interactive instruction, including opportunities to
observe and assist experienced facilitators.
