Meeting Location:
First United Methodist Church of
Plano 3160 East Spring Creek Parkway, Plano, Texas 75074. We
serve dinner from the Kitchen located on the Northwest corner of the
church near the Sanctuary (look for the stained glass windows). The
families eat together in the gathering area.
Time:
Dinner is
served at 6:30 p.m. Please arrive by 6:00 p.m. with the meal
prepared. If you need to use the church kitchen to warm or prepare
your meal, please arrange to do so with a meal coordinator to ensure
availability prior to meal service date.
Dessert is served around 6:45.
Mealtime is over at 7:00 p.m. when the families go to their groups.
At that time, if your group so desires (and if there is any food
left over to serve to the volunteers), the volunteers have a quick
meal with the meal providers before cleanup begins.
How Many:
We serve
approximately 60-70 people. Keep in mind, however, that half of
these people are children and they will not eat as much as the
average adult. The school calendar can affect the number of people
who attend as well.
Meal/Supply Requirements:
The average
meal served is a 3 course meal for example, spaghetti or
casserole, salad and bread, or hot dogs, chips and fruit and
dessert. Dessert can be easy something like cookies, brownies,
sheet cake, cupcakes, etc. If you need any meal suggestions, please
ask the meal coordinator.
Please bring
sturdy disposable plates, cups (at least 12 oz.), napkins and
plastic silverware to serve the meal.
We (Journey
of Hope) provide the ice and drinks (water, lemonade and tea) and
peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the possibly finicky child.
Number
of Volunteers Needed:
It is a good idea to have 3
volunteers to help set-up and serve the meal to the families. We
serve the meal to the families to keep the service line moving in a
timely fashion. (Plastic gloves are provided for you to protect
your hands.) If your group is not large enough to accommodate
server volunteers just let me know and I can recruit more people.
Clean Up:
After the volunteers eat, clean up
begins. Please assist us in clearing off all the tables, wiping
them with a wet cloth and cleaning the kitchen. Please wash and
return any items you used from the church kitchen to its appropriate
place. It is very important that we leave the kitchen as clean as
we found it so as to not be in violation of any health laws.
Sorry, we are not able to keep any
leftovers. Any leftovers must be thrown out or sent home with the
meal providers. After clean up is complete, you are free to leave.
We appreciate your support and look
forward to meeting you! Please contact the Journey of Hope
office, at (972) 964-1600 or
community@johgriefsupport.org if you have any further questions. |
