I'm so
pleased to join in the effort to support Journey of Hope's
"Warren's Walk" on October 24.
This
organization is vital to Plano ISD's families and students. Although
Journey of Hope serves all of North Texas,
I know that the Plano community has a unique relationship with this
organization which provides support and grief management to children and
families following the loss of a loved one. The "Warren's Walk" event
will make a difference for children facing grief in their lives. I can
think of no better reason to join in this event on October 24 than to
serve our students who may need a helping hand during a critical time.

WARREN'S WALK
Support a Walker |

Warren was a kid in a
hurry.
He was born in the
front seat of our car because he couldn’t wait to make it to the
hospital.
He always wanted to be
as old as his sisters.
He learned to play
piano sonatinas by ear because it was faster than reading music.
He could climb the
front of a brick house as sure footed as a gecko.
Warren Rice died when he was 13 years old. |

Warren's Walk is about raising funds for our mission, and it's also
about the children we serve. Although it's named for Warren Rice, the
13 year old son of Mark and Kathleen, the Walk is truly as much about
Warren's sisters Elissa and Sarah, and all other children who grieve
when a dear loved one dies.
Those are the children that JOH serves, and why the Walk is both an
opportunity to remember, and an opportunity to celebrate the difference
that having JOH makes in the life of the children and families
devastated by their loss. Sarah Wiseman was 15 when Warren died. She
is now happily married and teaching middle schoolers. Her words best
sum up how JOH helped her: "I don't think I would have graduated from
college-not even from high school, and I certainly wouldn't be able to
teach 13 year-old boys-if not for my experience at JOH."
Kids like Sarah are filling JOH groups in bigger numbers than ever.
Supporting them, and remembering the lives of boys like Warren and our
own loved ones, is a matter of taking the time to walk in Harrington
Park with your friends on October 23.
